Camp Newsletter from March 12th

Whanau Turanga Piha Mill Camp

Monday 12th March

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

We have just over a week to go until our camp at Piha Mill. Breakfast and lunch menus are being finalised and the excitement is growing! Here is the information you will need in the lead-up till next Tuesday:

Food
Each group is working with a budget of $10 per person to cover breakfast and lunch for the three days, i.e. 4 people in the group = $40 (home baking does not have to be included in this amount). The children will bring home the menu and shopping list this week. They need to plan, with your help, when they will meet up to shop for the items on their list; ready to bring to school in one chilly bin per group on Tuesday morning. We are encouraging them to think broadly when planning the menu, and to think carefully about which foods will be safe till Friday, e.g., powdered or longlife milk would be a more sensible choice than bottled milk. We have a freezer at camp that we will rotate slicker pads through to keep items in the chilly bins cool. It can be an interesting experience shopping for camp with Year 7 children while they are responsible for budgeting, decision-making, and compromising - enjoy it, and try not to wince too much as interesting food choices are made!

The children will need a packed lunch from home on Tuesday.

Medicine
If your child requires medicine for the week, please put this in a clear plastic bag or plastic container that is labelled with the child’s name and dose required, and give it to Jesse in Room 9 beforehand or to him outside the Hall on Tuesday morning. The medicine will be stored in a safe and central place at camp.

Gear
Please make sure everything is labelled and is in one bag. The children come to school on Tuesday dressed for camp. There are no electronics at camp. A separate hard copy of this list will come home at the end of the week.
